[ Lao Tse ]

Water unites and water divides. It has been two years and the river never stops. The seasons change there, beyond great ocean, but not here, not in the way familiar. But we stay close to the roots, how we imagine them. We live like our ancestors, separated from them by physical distance, but close in the common experience of exile, that experience of so many generations. I feel their longing now for the willow in the land of oranges. But we are close to them in another way too, in the burden of water carried from stream daily, in smoke from the fire in our eyes, in joy at the abundance of fresh fish and simple pleasure of root dig out from the ground, in the absence of bounty of supermarket happiness.

Woda oddziela i woda łączy.

Fate twisted like forest river, twisted like Ronin, the cosmic serpent, separates thatched roofs that were and are our shelters. Separates branchless trees of early spring and eternal green of the jungle.

Oddziela bezlistne drzewa wczesnej wiosny i wieczną zieleń dżungli.

Branches and leaves are different, but water that nourishes them – it stays the same. In the early hour, just before dawn, even its chill can remind of the paradise lost and bring the memories and now as one.

O wczesnej godzinie, przed świtem, nawet jej chłód przypomina raj w pamięci żyjący i staje się on tutaj.
