“O day, arise! The atoms are dancing.
The souls are dancing, overcome with ecstasy.
I’ll whisper in your ear where their dance is leading them.
All the atoms in the air and in the desert know well, they seem insane.
Every single atom, happy …or miserable, becomes enamoured of the Sun, of which nothing can be said.”

Jalal ad-Din Rumi

Desert can be creator of surreal landscape of that kind you rarely walk even in your dreams. It is a giant monument to constant flow, change, but the change which rhytm is the slowest, as water flows fast and changes its shape from moment to moment, so rock takes millenia, but eventually, carved by sun and wind it crumbles, erodes, turns into smaller rocks, and even smaller, then into sand, that forms dunes, moves with wind and brings more mountains to their knees. Because the process is so slow and, to use a common word now, organic, the results do not evoke that grief and anguish you would have looking at ruins of Kabul. This is as gentle decay and destruction can get.

To rozkład i zniszczenie w najbardziej miękkiej i ostrożnej formie.

Even if does not look like this, where the guys above chill out, it is a mosque. Tuaregs live very close to the land, in the space. Their towns still seem like garrison camps, remains of the colonial era, instead of French legionnaires now full of Kabyl or Arab soldiers and other people of the sedentary stock, looking a bit lost in the outpost on the edge of nowhere. But with the Tuaregs, and this is not romanticizing but observation, is easy to see where their natural zen comes from.

After the morning meditation, a long walk in the desert, with lectures about entheogens in my earphones, focused on the patterns in the sand. Here is Jeremy Narby, anthropologist from Stanford University, author of the “Cosmic Serpent” : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q68vTTxe2o

Is it it twilight or just before dawn, that unnerving hour, when the door to world of demons is most open ?

Sebeiba

December 6th, 2012

Once a year Tuaregs of southern Algeria gather with their 4x4s and camels, put on the best indigo turbans and dance with swords to their female folk chanting and clapping and beating tinde drums in remembrance of ancient conflict and peace that followed. Shrieking of the desert women pierces your ears and aggresive dust kills digital equipment. Festival of Sebeiba.

Wysokie tony wibracji z gardeł kobiet pustyni przeszywają bębenki a wszechobecny kurz morduje cyfrowy sprzęt. Sebeiba.
