cracked mind

October 31st, 2020

Mind fails and words fail. Affected by jungle, by plants, decomposing, transforming does not necessarily mean nootropic boost of more of the same, but sometimes rather painful process of destruction of personality, of ego that was a source of its own pride, maker of its own trap. Ego death does not necessarily mean sudden event in ceremony, but can be gradual letting go of everything that was seen as a treasure before. One can only hope to trust the others who have gone before, that only after letting go of one thing, another can be revealed, and behind cracked mind, waits hidden more of the feeling. When more of concepts and theories simply do not enter, or slide right away, and no effort can stop that, love remains the only solution.

best spoken around the fire

February 6th, 2019

I am often asked, why not publish a book about my experiences? It for sure would be more effective in spreading knowledge about certain things and issues than this blog or random articles somewhere. But I came to believe that certain things are more important than “effectiveness”, like truth and honesty, and we all shift our values from latter to former, that unreigned beast called progress could be introduced to his potential fiancee, harmony.

First of all, I love how my life became in ways, let me use this fashionable word, organic. So I think it perfectly fits the style, if I pass certain observations, insights to individuals gathered together, going already through similar process, hence willing and ready to receive, by direct conversation. It fits the style of off- grid living, rather than jetting around the world of my days before. Feels right when it’s done while scraping the medicinal roots, so far removed from extracted single compounds, in bottles listing countless side effects in tiny sings called print.

Because it is not only about romantic fancy of stepping back into oral culture. I think that is not a coincidence that now, when we are recreating / rediscovering ancient techniques of communication with the spirit world, reviving the mythical, that alternative to print ways of communication become important. There is much more than words that direct, oral communication can convey to those who are prepared to hear it, going through initiation, open and present.

Word is like a seed, and it has to fall on fertile ground. Of course, one can scatter it in thousands of copies, hoping that some of them trigger something more than intellectual understanding, or worse, blind quasi religious following.  But we have wasted already so many trees, and besides, there is a risk of devaluation of the message but making it too public too quickly. Many initiatory traditions understood it, most likely long before Al-Halaj has been executed for his too enthusiastically shared revelation.

The other risk is of inflating one’s ego, enamored with sound of own message, its impact, influence, income it brings, and in the meantime, its readers, always happy to receive instructions from the exterior, live in the description rather than in the experience itself. Despite “those who know are silent and those who don’t know, speak” there has been too many Oshos, producing countless volumes, financing their limousines, and binding thousands of believers in stupor of attachment, while both the herd and the shepherd lived far from what was preached.

Word can be countereffective. It can be based upon and point to the example of someone’s experience, and then negated and opposed by the one who doesn’t have such an experience, and therefore block him from it. Word is dualistic discussion, constant monkey chatter, that scares away many more subtle messages present in the cosmos of the forest. And it is through the forest that I am learning in recent years. It is good to silence oneself there to hear more, especially in the path of medicinal dietas, path of vibrating with the plants. When one reveals secrets too soon and open, not only they loose their potency, but one may be blocked from receiving more. Better to keep tuning in, refining that shared vibration frequency, and then enable others to join in the song, in full presence and participation, until truth and harmony is so clearly visible, heard and felt that it needs to be discussed no more.

To medytacja codzienna nad rozkładem, przymusowa, oczywista.

I am looking at planks turning into paper and dust, I am looking at the termites’ paths. In trail overgrown in just a few weeks I am looking with eyes not as good as a year ago. This is daily meditation on decay, forced by reality, obvious.

Jakie to wyzwalające.

Regardless whether we succeed or fail, mistake or victory, all is temporary. The illusion of permanence is greater in modernity, in concrete, plastic, solid bank account. The impermanence does not pretend nor hides in the jungle, when you listen, rather than panic, you can hear it in the whisper of termites’ jaws when they are turning your dreams and plans in their bodies and tunnel creations. The difference between failed and successful investment is just a few years span, when one half-empty and another, frequented, both inevitably end up as next stage of natural metabolism, fertilizer for poor Amazonian soil. How freeing that is.

To be a prisoner for shorter rather than longer moment, to be forced quicker to let go, to love freedom disguised as failure, mother of change, because it sets you free from the routine of success. To see the end of all ambition right in the beginning of the enterprise, not waiting for nuclear disaster like above, in Chernobyl to see your happy memories overgrown by relentless life, not to fear crisis and immigrants, because nature itself signalizes, every moment, every step, not-negotiable end. It pushes you, your thoughts and your being always towards now, here. Use it. Today’s soup will turn acidic tomorrow morning, because new life is hatching there, life of tomorrow, as in potatoes, in tomatoes left on the shelf, in tasty treat left “for later”. The later does not exist, it never comes. Your stomach and your cells for food, your memory for what you live through, these are the most safe warehouses – but even those are not eternal. Joy of today can not be lived in a month time. Let go. Puke the blockage. The control. Give back what you took. Nothing is yours, say termites in the name of the forest. Fungus. Cockroaches. Chase them, remove it, keep controlling – but with the same speed Lady Madness will follow you.

Surrender, open up, accept chaos, and you will draw from the jungle what is the most precious, not money, not raw resources, these equally impermanent treasures, but practical lesson about passing of things, letting go, about non-attachment. That each our gesture, effort, investment, willing, ambition, are building mandala that will anyway, here sooner than later, be scattered by wind. Steps you carved in the ground will be washed by rainy season, bush cut trough with machetes will grow back, bodies, thoughts and souls purified by medicine will grease, stain and clog again, mistakes once commited will repeat. Nevermind, that does not mean to stop trying, building, creating, decorating, as the fact, that after the song is over there is silence does not mean it makes no sense to sing.  To keep washing dishes again and again, to sweep ants out, to vomit the sadness and polish the soul. The most common, fundamental icaros leading through ayahuasca night are songs of polishing, cleaning, burning. As the weeds are burnt again and again, so is the garbage in your heart. Love the process and not the result, so that the mandala of your life shines with its beauty, beauty of all of the imperfect efforts, mistaken investments, faulty constructions, step by step, grain of rice after grain, up to moment where this all will will be destroyed among laughter or left behind for others to play with.

To spowodowało powstanie Centrum Takiwasi, gdzie leczymy osoby z problemami uzależnień, pomimo moich pierwotnych oporów wobec perspektywy życia, jakiego sobie wcześniej nie wyobrażałem.

Ta eksploracja głębin niewidzialnego, osobistego, kolektywnego i transpersonalnego, wymaga odwagi, wytrwałości, pokory.

Ayahuasca appeared in a suprising way in my life in 1986, when I wanted to explore the therepeutical potential of traditional medicines. At the same time it fit in my process of personal, psychological, spiritual and professional search, intitiated much earlier, which came to important turn when I was present at Mother’s Theresa dying moments in Calcultta in 1984 and experienced altered state of consciousness without having taken any substance. That is when I decided to abandon the safe paths and go for an adventure in Peruvian Amazon. The veil has been torn and I understood that I have found what I was looking for, without knowing it. It brought me to create Takiwasi Center for treatment of persons with addiction problems, despite my resistance to perspective of life I had not imagined before. It also brought me to a lot of other plants and ancestral techniques of healing without use of plants. It was like moving from seeing a black and white film to one in 3d and in colours. I would sum these experiences so complex and difficult to encase in words by saying that we are dealing here basically with my path of reconcilliation with what really is and who I am , my history, my origins, my qualities and my limitations, and above all, my Christian heritage, which is an absolute treasure, where correct and ritualized usage of the plants plays a role of precursor in obtaining knowledge of Caritas, spiritual love.

Ayahuasca does not create any kind of dependency and does require to “pay a price” for accessing the knowlege. This exploration of depths of the invisible, the personal, collective and transpersonal, requires courage, perseverance and humility. It asks for a large amount of suffering and discipline, confrontation with ego and the most profound fears, like a kind of “truth serum”.  It is not a mere play. It opens the doors of mystical experience of direct contact with spiritual world, which leads in daily life to connecting with suffering of the other and development of active compassion.  This is not a drug in popular sense of the word, but like anything in creation, even the most sacred, it can transform into instrument of power, inflation of ego instead of widening of consciousness. Everything depends upon interior attitude, sincerity, humility, and guided and correctly ritualized use. Ayahuasca “shows the way” but is not walking the way for us. Without investing in everyday practice, without following indications and ancestral rules of use, like all medicine it can transform itself into venom, and in this case it means venom for the soul.

Slavic believed that world was created by Crnobog and Belobog who, through joint effort, brought their creation to perfection. Although during the process of world creation the gods came into conflict, precisely those actions they performed against each other caused the universe to look as it does. Cernobog ruling dark half of the year, opposed by Belobog – the ruler of the sunny half.

Despite being present in my homeland much earlier than the import of self-rightheous Christianity, this belief seems to be more mature and corresponding to reality of human psyche, as well as very universal. I am sitting in a library in a remote Amazonian town of Leticia, on the border of Colombia, Peru and Brasil, and in “The Dawn of Brasilian Soul” by Roberto Gambini I find this passage :

Pomimo, iż te wierzenia obecne były w mojej ojczystej ziemi dużo wcześniej niż importowane misjonarskie chrześcijaństwo, wydają się bardziej dojrzałe i odpowiadające rzeczywistości ludzkiej psychiki, jak również bardziej uniwersalne. Siedzę w bibliotece w sercu Amazonii, w mieście Leticia na pograniczu Brazylii, Kolumbii i Peru i w eseju Roberto Gambini”Świt brazylijskiej duszy” odnajduję taki oto fragment :

“I know the path. It is straight and narrow. It is like the edge of a sword. I rejoice to walk on it. I weep when I slip. God’s word is: ‘He who strives never perishes.’ I have implicit faith in that promise. Though, therefore, from my weakness I fail a thousand times, I will not lose faith, but hope that I shall see the Light when the flesh has been brought under perfect subjection, as some day it must.

Give thanks to the turns of merciless fortune, for every change always brings bad and good, calamity and redemption. There are many threads to this story, but being exiled as so many generations before, finally brought the rich flavour of nostalgia that is essential component of Slavic soul. The meaning of things only revealed when lost, we are the men of the willow and birch, forest, rivers and swamps, country living and simplicity, but I have lost it twice, first with all the others, under deluge of uniform ugliness of modernity, second time by ruling of personal fate. I see it now where others can’t.

Dzięki niech będą nieuchronnie obracającemu kołu fortuny, bo każda zmiana zawsze przynosi dobre i złe, nieszczęście i odkupienie.

Our lifes are so smooth and problems so little in comparison, we realize when facing such stories, and then next day or an hour later we already don’t remember that at all.

We visited a healer living in a remote village on Maranon river. We slept in one room with his family and other patients, in this case old mother of the healer’s wife. She is almost 90 years old and taken care of by her partner, who is around 58, half blind from an accident in the field. He asked me if by any chance I dont have any glasses. His wife is constantly holding or trying to grab his hand, to be sure he is around, even if he goes out for a moment to carry out the pot with her urine. In the meantime her other hand constantly scans the floor, even right after dinner, in search of something to eat, be it crumbs, insects, dust, mud. She just can’t be reasoned with, can’t be convinced to stop. She wakes in the middle of the night, screaming. That is her life. On the wooden floor, waiting for the end. That is his life. Without nurses to help, government benefits, free day to rest from the unexplainable burden of being full time caretaker that is only known to those who have experienced it. Even if there was someone with TV in the village, to distract his mind for a while, he doesn’t have this pair of glasses we just take for granted, as many other things, health included. Until it is lost.

W międzyczasie jej druga dłoń stale skanuje podłogę, nawet tuż po posiłku, w poszukiwaniu czegoś do zjedzenia, okruszków, insektów, drzazg, kurzu, błota. Bez pielęgniarek jakie by mu pomogły w opiece, bez rządowych zasiłków, bez wolnego dnia by odpocząć od trudnego do wytłumaczenia brzemienia całodobowej opieki, znanego tylko tym, którzy go doświadczyli.

Another journey for transformation, healing, self-understaning and love. With sadness and deep shadow cast upon present and future, hard lesson in accepting the fate and understanding reasons. High price paid, remorse and burdened conscience, hopefully the benefits reaped by some will in the end bring the balance, justice and happiness for all, so that I can still believe, what goes around, comes around.

Kolejna podróż w poszukiwaniu przemiany, uzdrowienia, samozrozumienia i miłości, dla, mam nadzieję, większości jej uczestników. Wszystko w cieniu smutku i głębokiego cienia rzucanego na teraz i niepewną przyszłość, ciężka lekcja akceptacji losu, zrozumienia przyczyn. Wysoka cena, żal i ciężkie sumienie z powodu historii o której nie mogę teraz nawet opowiadać, oby korzyści i dobro zebrane przez wielu pomogły przywrócić równowagę, sprawiedliwość i szczęście, tak bym mógł wierzyć nadal, iż dobro zasiane dobrem wraca.
