In Buddhist view the depression is treated as one of mental states called kleshas, which cloud the mind and manifest in unwholesome actions, and it arises as a result of habitual and incorrect perceiving of self-identity which appears to be single, independent, unchanging, despite the fact that all the material-mental factors, which form base of the projection of this identity, are in no way single, independent and unchanging.
