To him the shape of the atomic cloud was a physical and biophysical pun on the transformative powers of the Strophariad and its eruption into human history.

(…) Patrzyliśmy przez parę chwil i uformowało się w ogromną chmurę grzybową – jak efekt termonuklearnej eksplozji. Wrażenie było piorunujące, i Ev przypomniała mi słowa Dennisa odnośnie Stropharii cubensis.  Powiedział, że jest to grzyb na końcu historii. Dla niego kształt atomowej chmury był fizyczną i biofizyczną zagadką o transformującej mocy Strophariad i jej erupcji w ludzką historię.
